The domestic bicycle market (in volume) was in decline during the period 2012-2014. In particular, the market volume decreased by 9.3% in 2014 versus 2013, while the decline was more intense (-14%) a year earlier. Local demand is covered by both imported and domestically assembled bicycles. Import penetration stood at 51.3% in 2014. Bicycle exports were on a low level in the last five years, registering a downward trend. It is estimated that bicycle exports stood at 13% -16% of total production in recent years.
Mountain bikes is estimated to cover around 40% of total bicycle sales in 2014 (in terms of quantity). The category of trekking bikes held a share of 20% approximately, followed by the city bikes, representing 15% of total sales in 2014.
