Pupils attending private schools have been increasing year-on-year since 2015/16 to reach 87,308 pupils in 2019/20, increasing by 3.1% compared to the previous year. A further increase in the total number of students attending private schools is also estimated for the 2020/21 and 2021/22 school terms, by 2.2% and 2.0% respectively.
Private educational institutions accounted for 6.6% of all students in 2019/20, while this share varies in the individual levels of education.
Kindergartens have the lion’s share in private education (11.2% in 2019/20). It is noted that the number of students has been continuously increasing since 2014/15 and in 2019/20 an increase of 15.2% was recorded, compared to the previous school year.
