ATHLETIC WEAR (TRACK SUITS - SPORT SHOES)

The sector of athletic wear in Greece mainly consists of importers and few manufacturers, while in some cases both activities are combined. As regards the sector of athletic footwear, domestic demand is exclusively covered by imports as there is no domestic production.
In recent years the overall market of tracksuits (consumption in tracksuit sets) has registered a fall. Particularly, in 2013 the market dropped by 7.4%, in 2012 by 3.6% and in 2011 by 4.8%. A further fall is estimated for 2014. Demand is mainly covered by imports (70% over the last years). Domestic production has gradually shrunk due to the reduction of orders received that Greek manufacturers receive from foreign firms. Exports are very limited.
The total market of athletic footwear has been in decline since 2008. Particularly, consumption size (in pairs) dropped by 2.3% in 2013, by 6.5% in 2012 and by 8% in 2011. The market is expected to remain stable in 2014.
